What treatments are available?
An initial comprehensive assessment will determine the most appropriate form of treatment for each individual, during which a clear logical explanation of the problem and subsequent advice on its management will also be given.
Physiotherapists can use a number of treatment methods to help alleviate your symptoms. These can involve a hands-on approach such as: FRICTIONS, MOBILISATION and MANIPULATIVE PROCEDURES, PASSIVE STRETCHING TECHNIQUES, TRACTION—MANUAL & MECHANICAL
Your Physiotherapist is also qualified to use ELECTROTHERAPEUTIC MODALITIES such as Pulsed & Continuous Shortwave Diathermy, Interferential, Ultra-sound, Laser, Tens.
A number of other methods include HEAT & ICE THERAPY, EXERCISE REGIMES (including core stability work such as PILATES), BOBATH TECHNIQUES (for neurology patients), MASSAGE, and RELAXATION TECHNIQUES
Your Physiotherapist can also advise you on other forms of treatment such as OSTEOPATHY, PODIATRY, AROMATHERAPY, REFLEXOLOGY, and TRADITIONAL CHINESE ACUPUNCTURE
Do you treat sports injuries?
We have vast experience in treating sports injuries. Many acute injuries to joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments are accompanied by bleeding, swelling, and pain. In these cases treatment should be immediate to reduce the symptoms to a minimum so that healing can take place as soon as possible. The physiotherapist can help you regain full function of the injured part.
You will also be advised on the prevention of injury. When in doubt, always seek the advice of a Chartered Physiotherapist, who will help you to return to your sport as quickly as possible.
Can anyone attend physiotherapy?
You do not need a referral from your Doctor unless you have health insurance cover which stipulates that a GP referral is needed. If your Doctor has given you a referral this should be brought with you as we would correspond with your Doctor regarding your treatment.
Otley Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Clinic is recognised by many health insurance companies as well as being available to those who wish to pay direct. Patients who wish to use their private health schemes should bring the appropriate forms and policy/registration documents with them.
Patients with any HOSPITAL FUND cover such as LHF and BHF are able to reclaim half of the treatment costs. (A fee may be charged for a cancelled or broken appointment unless 24 hours notice is given.)
How long is the treatment?
There is no time constraint placed on your physiotherapy session. This allows your physiotherapist to undertake a full detailed assessment of your condition, provide you with an explanation of your problem and give you the treatment required, as well as giving you advice so that you can help take care of your problem after leaving the clinic.
